My magazine evaluation-
In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
For my magazine cover I have a bold title which if
visible and noticeable for the audience, the title of my magazine if ‘M.I.L.F’
which can be seen as quite catchy, it’s something the audience will notice and
remember which is my aim. The majority of the images I have used for my
magazine are all professionally taken, the reason I have chosen to use ‘Elle
Hider’ as the main image for my front cover is because she is being used as the
main artist that the magazine is interviewing, this is because she is a new
upcoming artist who everyone wants to know about. It also relates to the
magazine itself because of the genre of the magazine which is music, so
therefore she is the main image. She has also been used as she is a new artist
so my target audience will notice the magazine more if it has a popular artist
that people want to read about. The reason I have chosen to have images of
Rihanna, Chris Brown, Childish Gambino, Frank Ocean and Elle Hider is because
they are all well-known artists, who are known to be most popular for the
target audience I chose which is 15-20, I also chose that as my target audience
because it was shown to be the most popular target audience to like magazines
of this genre etc. I have also added quite a lot of images on my magazine as my
survey showed that most people like to have images in their magazine. The
costumes I used for my specific chosen artist are generally quite average,
nothing to out there or different as that is to certain peoples taste who
generally might not choose this magazine maybe? She is also wearing this
because it’s generally what girls around her age would wear. Although the colours
she’s wearing aren’t that bright it may affect the target audience slightly
because younger ages like to wear bright colourful colours. However, some fans
will analyse the products she’s wearing themselves which will draw them in to
buying something similar, to look like their idols. I also chose the people I
have to be on my magazine because they are all a fairly similar age to my
target audience therefore my target audience and chosen artist will all have
something in common as of their age etc. As my magazine is more pointing
towards the R&B genre of music, the artists I have included are all known
for their well-known produced R&B style music, the reason I have featured
them in my magazine .The title font is quite big and bright, it goes slightly with
the colour of the shorts she’s wearing it also stands out from the background
which is what you need for your magazine to be seen as quite noticeable. The
style of the magazine can be seen as quite girly or either quite plain, which
could be something I should have improved to make it more like the genre style.
All of the features used in my magazine all relate to the genre of the
magazine, the written content uses words like ‘you’ which makes the magazine
more inviting so the audience feel as if they’re being involved, it suggests
that the magazine is about relating and communication to it’s own target
audience, it also makes them want to read more, which is what the purpose of
the magazine and what it’s supposed to do. The double page spread is more aimed
towards girls I would say is it’s quite a girly looking page with the different
shades of pink, I also think it targets the girl audience because the question
asked by the interviewer are the questions the target audience have.
How does your media product represent particular social groups?
My magazine
represents different social groups, this is achieved by featuring different
types of R&B music of different R&B artists. I would try to feature
different music from different ethnic and age groups. Although it would be
quite hard to do this as my target audience is for the UK.
What kind of media institution might distribute
your media product and why?
The media institution that may distribute my magazine is IPC MEDIA, I
think this because they publish a wide range of different magazines. I think
this would help my magazine a lot because it’s a popular media institution.
What have you learnt about technologies from the
process of constructing this product?
I have learnt quite a bit about technologies from
constructing my magazine such as now being able to use Photoshop in a way I was
able to before, on this I have learnt how to edit pictures, layering, being
able to use the quick selection tool and am able to import images needed for my
magazine. I enjoyed using Photoshop because it made me capable to use it when I
need to, it also liked it because it taught me how to edit pictures on a
different scale. I have also used professional cameras for my own photography
that I have included in my magazine, using this taught me how important angles,
lighting, placement were on a magazine.
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you
feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?
Looking back I feel that I have learnt quite a
lot in the progression. I have learnt that it’s better to keep up to task and
work hard otherwise it becomes a struggle. At this time of creating my prelimary task i struggled and found it hard to use photoshop, i also wanted to watch tutorials on youtube to give me an idea of how it works.
